ReGrowth Rhythms

Sāmatvārtha Sutra

One series of Theory of ReGrowth

A live book, written in public: a series of essays, organised as a book. It asks how to make the best use of AI for people and the planet: point it at the institution before the task, find the inherited shape of past decisions that keeps running (Conway Debt), and choose what should grow, shrink and regenerate. Sāmatvārtha is the idea’s original, Indic name; ReGrowth is its name in English, set against both degrowth and accelerationism. Its essays become minisodes on YouTube, in the making: minisodes run 7–14 minutes. YouTube also carries other formats, and later other CC IP series. Everything is public. The book’s words, each in a line or two, are in the glossary.

The index, loose for now coming soon

The book is the next step from the author’s Codex essays, which grew from Just Publish It Already, and its index is shaped by their themes. Its order is loose, and the write-ups are coming soon: each grows in the open, one pass at a time, and its row shows where it stands and when it last changed. Seeds are sketched with AI from the author’s notes and the studio’s reading, and say so. A chapter whose argument a checked journal essay already carries is a sprout, and links the essay; nothing is called rooted until the chapter itself is checked. The chapters and their order change only on the author’s word; where one might go another way, its page says so; loose ideas wait in the margins.

Seed
A working title, the question it asks and a few notes.
Sprout
An outline with its sources, then a draft.
Rooted
Checked: its claims sourced, the strongest objection met, its limits stated.

The five dots are its passes: notes, an outline with sources, a draft, checked, and released as a commons.

In the margins

Explorations that are not chapters of their own yet; some sit inside one for now. Some will become chapters, some will fold into one, some will be composted. They stay in view on purpose.

  • What was the expensive part? If intelligence gets cheap, what was costly all along? For now inside Feed Raw Example.
  • Household, commons, market, state. Four ways we provide for each other, after Kate Raworth’s embedded economy. When no one assigns a cost, where does it land? For now inside the mandala.
  • A market is a machine for forgetting who owes whom. For now inside Pañca Ṛṇa.
  • Moloch and Ṛta. The race nobody chose, and order as a living rhythm. For now inside Technopoly.
  • Model · harness · meta-harness · make. Distilling intelligence into tools rather than into weights. For now inside India Is Not a Download.
  • Seventy hours. What is abundance for, if we still work seventy-hour weeks? For now inside India Is Not a Download.
  • Roles before agents. Conway’s law run backwards: fit the organisation to the product.
  • The ruliad and Advaita. Whether they deserve a chapter of their own.
  • Compost feeds the next bloom. The drafts this book grew out of, told or kept.
  • Editing with readers. How the book might one day be edited with the people who read it: a voice on a free book, never a gate.
  • Essay titles waiting for a place (drafted, not yet checked or published): A Better Room Is a Form of Technology · A Category Is a Tiny Government · Your Company Is a Myth With Payroll · The Future Arrives as a Default Setting · The Feed Is a Market for Nervous Systems · Your Ambition Has Other People’s Fingerprints · The Most Scalable Thing Is a Standard · Resilience Is Redundancy That Survived a Finance Meeting.

Beside the book · the Pañca Ṛṇa IKS Crash Course

Five short lessons, planned to run alongside chapter 13, one for each obligation the book treats as a working hypothesis, read here as: bhūta, the earth and its ecosystems; manuṣya, fellow humans and society; pitṛ, household, lineage and care; ṛṣi, knowledge, culture and the commons; deva, governance, the higher order. The glosses are this book’s reading. Its one exercise: sort a month of your own spending into the five, privately, on your own device. Older texts most often speak of three debts; the five here are a synthesis, offered as one. Each lesson is a seed.

Reading is open now. Comments and feedback on each chapter come later, once the book has its readers.
